Hack My Car: Hands-on Car Hacking Event & After Party
A small, hands-on follow-up to DEFCON Toronto founder Nick Aleks’s July car hacking talk, held at Square One in Mississauga. The evening was set up as a peer review of a USENIX Security paper, “Lock It and Still Lose It”, on the insecurity of automotive remote keyless entry systems. The paper described a key cloning attack said to affect some 100 million Volkswagen cars.
The plan was to replicate its findings on Nick’s own 2014 VW Golf TDI with two YardStick Ones, an RTL-SDR and a MacBook Pro, and to document everything for a report afterward.
