Canadian Surveillance Ops, Non-linear Cyber Warfare & Nation-State Cyber Crime
A September meetup hosted by Pivotal Labs, with three talks and a shared theme of governments and hacking. Christopher Parsons of the Citizen Lab presented on bulk surveillance operations. He covered how Canada’s signals intelligence agency and domestic security intelligence service monitor data traffic, how that data can lawfully be used, and how forthcoming legislation might change those practices. Nick Aleks presented on non-linear cyber warfare, looking at disinformation and propaganda as strategic deception.
Nicholas Zulkoski gave a predictive analysis of nation-state sponsored cybercrime, comparing what the countries behind major operations have in common to work out which might be next. Cycura helped organize the event.
